There are many jobs out there that are available to everyone, but they require a degree of luck or persistence to find.
I’ve done a lot of research over the last few years to find a good balance between jobs I can do and jobs I want to do.
In this post I’ll show you what I’ve learned about finding a good job and give you some tips to help you find yours.
1: Start looking early
When you start your search, you should have an idea of what you’re looking for. That way you can narrow down your search to specific locations and types of jobs.
For example, I was always interested in getting into game development, so I started researching what companies were hiring at the time.
If you’re looking for a job with a big company, you’ll probably have to start with their career page, but if you’re looking for a smaller company, you can start there.
The more specific you can be, the easier it will be to find the right job for you.
2: Start your search on LinkedIn
LinkedIn is probably the best resource for finding a job. Not only does it have a lot of people on it, but it also has a lot of companies that are hiring.
You should definitely check out their careers page, but you can also use their search bar to look for specific jobs or companies that interest you.
If you’re looking for a role with a big company, you can start by looking at their page, but if you’re looking for a smaller company, you can start there.
If you see a job that seems interesting, just click the “Apply” button and fill out the application form. You can usually expect a response within a few days.
If you get an email from LinkedIn telling you that you’ve been matched with a company, don’t expect to hear from them again. This is a sign that they don’t have an opening for you.
3: Join as many groups as possible
Most groups have an active community of people who are looking for work.
For example, I was recently looking for a web developer job in London, so I joined some London-based groups.
It’s much easier to find these groups because they are organized by location.
If you’re looking for a specific job, you can join as many groups as you want, but if you’re looking for a job in general, you should stick with one group at most.
4: Check out job boards
I’ve found that it’s best to use multiple resources when I’m looking for a job.
There are a lot of online resources that allow you to search for jobs by location or type of job.
Some of the best ones include:
Indeed.com – A job board for anyone looking for work.
Monster.com – A site that lets you search for jobs by industry, company, or location.
Simply Hired – A job board for companies that are looking for employees.
Zurcher.com – A job board for people looking for freelance work.
LinkedIn also has a job search function where you can find new job listings.
5: Use your network
Your network is your best resource for finding a job.
It doesn’t matter if your network is personal or professional. If you have friends or family who are looking for work, ask them if they know of any openings.
If you don’t have any friends or family that are looking for work, you can try contacting your local business owners. They may be willing to hire you as an independent contractor or employee.
6: Do your research
Make sure that the jobs you’re looking for are actually available.
You’ll never know if the job is really open until you check the company’s careers page.
This also applies to freelance jobs. You should make sure that the company is actually willing to hire freelancers.
7: Don’t apply for too many jobs at once
It’s important to keep your application simple and clear.
If you want to land a job, you need to stand out from the competition.
In my experience, people rarely read long applications, so it’s best to keep them short.
If you apply for a job, but don’t get a response, don’t panic. It could be because there are other applicants who are more qualified than you.
You don’t need to apply for every job that comes up, but you should keep an eye on the ones that seem like they might be worth your time.
